When Applicants Can Expect a Letter of Acceptance or Rejection

In fields of study with restrictive admissions, letters of acceptance are issued in August for the winter semester and in February for the summer semester. However, in the case that spots open up after these dates the letters of acceptance may be issued as late as September/October or March/April, respectively. It is important that you or a person authorized to represent you are reachable during these months as applicants are only granted a short period of time to accept a spot in fields with restrictive admissions (maximally 14 days) and it is possible that your spot in this field will be passed on to another applicant. Please inform the University of Freiburg immediately of a change in residence.

Enrollment (Matriculation)

All applicants who are admitted to studies upon application will be notified as to the dates of enrollment and the documents they need to bring with them. The dates of enrollment are usually in the first half of October (for the winter semester) and April (for the summer semester). The exact dates are included in the letter of acceptance. However, it is often necessary to arrive earlier because the preparatory courses for the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber (DSH) take place in March and September and because it might take time to find a room or an apartment.
