1. What is Eucor - The European Campus?

Founded in 1989, the “European Confederation of Upper Rhine Universities” is the key player in research and education in the tri-nation, metropolitan Upper Rhine region.
Eucor comprises five German, French, and Swiss universities located within 200 kilometers of each other: Basel, Freiburg, Haute-Alsace, Karlsruhe, und Strasbourg.

The Upper Rhine region offers ideal conditions for about 15,000 researchers, 11,000 Ph.D. candidates, and 115,000 students, due to the relatively high density of academic institutions. The total budget for the five partner universities amounts to 2.3 billion Euros.

Creating the European Campus:
The goal is to create a European university network with clearly defined and shared structures of organisation. This network is at the core of the academic future in the Upper Rhine. The European Campus is to become the focal point of the skills and potential of over 130 academic institutions. These institutions should come together to form a high-profile academic and research area without walls or borders, and with an international presence.

The European Campus is the strategic lighthouse project and represents the European future of the universities in the Upper Rhine region.

2. Information for Students of the University of Freiburg

Please also read the practical tips for Eucorstudents from the University of Freiburg in the download area.

2.1 What do I have to do to take a course at a Eucor university?

  • Download the brochure "Praktische Hinweise für Freiburger Studierende"
  • Apply for an Eucor student identification card at the Central Student Advising Office. To do so, please come during the office hours and bring a passport photo and your UniCard with you.
  • Find information about course offerings on the homepages of the Eucor universities.
  • Check with your department or examination office in Freiburg before beginning the course to find out whether you can receive credit for your degree program.
  • Download a Eucor attestation in German [PDF 33KB] or French [PDF 31KB] and ask your professor at the Eucor host university to fill it out. Make sure the attestation is also stamped with the official seal of the university. You will need the Eucor attestation to have your course work accredited in Freiburg, to verify that you attended the course, and to apply for a refund for your travel expenses.
  • Apply for an allowance to cover your travel expenses and submit the refund invoice at the end of the event.
  • Note that semesters begin and end at different times in France and Switzerland!

Basel: Register at the beginning of the semester at the Student Registration Office, Petersplatz 1. Make sure to bring your Eucor identification card and your UniCard as well as the completed initial registration form (if you are taking a course in Basel for the first time) and the course registration certificate (the so-called “Belegschein”).
