Online Application

  • For a full-time undergraduate degree program (Bachelor or State Examination, including teaching degree programs)
  • For selected Master’s programs. (Click here for an overview of all Master’s programs it is possible to apply for admission to online. In the case of all other Master’s programs, you need to submit your application directly to the department – for contact information, please consult the overview of fields of study.)

Important Information:

  • To receive admission to the degree programs in Human Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry, first study semester applicants from the Federal Republic of Germany and EU member states as well as international applicants with a German school-leaving certificate (so-called “Bildungsinländer/innen”) must apply online at hochschulstart.de.

    Icon International Internation applicants without German higher education entrance qualification (so-called “Bildungsausländer”) may apply directly to the University of Freiburg online.
  • To receive admission to the degree program Bachelor of Science in Psychology, first study semester, applicants from the Federal Republic of Germany and EU member states as well as international applicants with a German school-leaving certificate (so-called “Bildungsinländer/innen”) must first register at https://dosv.hochschulstart.de/bewerber.
  • German applicants with a foreign secondary school education must have their school-leaving certificate recognized before applying for admission. Click here to find out how to do this.

Step 1: Do you have enough information on your field of study?

Before completing your online application, please check carefully what requirements applicants to your field of study need to fulfill, e.g., prerequisites for admission, application deadlines, and/or possible combinations of fields. A good place to start is with the overview of fields of study.

You can still apply for admission in fields with free admissions until 17 April 2014.
Please note: The online application platform is not available between 3:00 and 6:00 a.m. CET.

Step 4: Check your status

If you have already completed an online application, you can check its current status at any time. In addition, you will automatically receive an e-mail when the status of your application changes. Letters of acceptance and rejection are still sent by mail.
 

Step 5: Participate in a lottery procedure (if applicable)

Lottery procedures are conducted in fields of study with restrictive admissions in which there are still free spaces. Applicants who are not EU citizens and/or do not have a German school-leaving certificate are not eligible to participate in these lottery procedures. If spaces are still available after the last procedure for selecting alternate candidates has been completed, they are granted in a lottery procedure. Applications for participation in a lottery procedure must be made online and separately for each desired field of study. The application period for the winter semester is 1 September to 30 September, the application period for the summer semester is 1 March to 31 March.
Applications submitted outside of these periods will not be considered.
