 Applications step by step

  • To receive admission to degree programmes in Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry, first semester applicants from the Federal Republic of Germany and EU/EEA member states as well as international applicants with German higher education entrance qualifications ("Abitur") must apply online at hochschulstart.de.
A summary of the most important information regarding the online Hochschulstart selection process is available on our "Hochschulstart" info page [de].

Icon International International applicants outside of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) without German higher education entrance qualifications ("Abitur") apply directly via the University of Freiburg application portal (see step 3 below).

  • To receive admission to Psychology (B.Sc.), Biology (B.Sc.) or Business Administration (Public and Non-Profit-Management, B.Sc.) you have to pass through a two-stage process:
    1. hochschulstart registration
    2. University of Freiburg application portal (see step 4)

    Application for higher semesters

  • German applicants who have achieved a foreign higher education entrance qualification must have their school leaving certificate recognised prior to applying for a university place. You can find out how this process works on our "Foreign education certificates" info page.

Carefully check the requirements one more time, such as admission requirements, application deadlines and/or combination of fields for your subject. A good place to start is the overview of fields of study.

Applicants with a German higher education entrance qualification (“Abitur”) can matriculate (in early August) directly for open admission subjects in the Student Service Centre – Registration Office. No application is required in this instance.
Icon International Please remember to submit a certified copy of your qualification for admission to higher education (Abitur) as well as your secondary school transcripts and those from any semesters of study you have completed so far. Read our informational leaflet [de/en] to find out how to obtain certified copies of these documents.
