Leaves of absence
Information on applying for a leave of absence
In most cases, applications for a leave of absence must be submitted during the registration period (for the winter semester: June 1st through 30th; for the summer semester: January 15th through February 15th). However, in exceptional cases (e.g. illness, births, deaths) applications submitted immediately following the event will be accepted (see § 15, Zulassungs- und Immatrikulationsordnung (ZimmO) [de]).
Important remark on payment of fees:
As long as you submit your application for a leave of absence by September 30th for the winter semester or March 31st for the summer semester, you do not need to pay registration fees or student fees. If you apply for your leave of absence belatedly, you must pay the fees.
The application should include:
1. The reason for your leave of absence (see information on legitimate reasons for a leave of absence)
2. If you are submitting your application late: Data sheet (certificate of enrollment) for the current semester for correction purposes.
