PROMOS 2018

Scholarships for students completing an entire degree program at the University of Freiburg going on short stays abroad (outside of Europe).

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides German universities with the means to help facilitate short stays abroad (outside of Europe). Degree-seeking students at ALU can apply for a DAAD-PROMOS scholarship at the International Office.

Target group – Who can apply?

Full-time students of all nationalities studying at ALU, who will complete their degree here and are planning to do a short stay abroad complying with the regulations explained in the section ‘Program lines’.
Please note:

  • These scholarships are not meant to support your studies in Freiburg at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. If you are looking for funding for full-time, degree-seeking students of all nationalities, who will complete an entire study program in Freiburg, please contact this department for further information.
  • Students studying at other universities (not ALU) and going abroad, exchange students or incoming free movers who are studying at ALU for one or two semesters, as well as PhD students or students going abroad via an exchange program are not eligible to apply for this scholarship program. Please contact us, before sending in your online application!
  • Stays in your home countries are not funded (e.g. Brazilian nationals who go to Brazil cannot apply). This also applies to countries where you lived permanently during the past five years.

 

Program lines – Which projects can be funded?

In 2018, the following program lines can be supported at ALU. Please take into account the terms explained for each program line, by clicking on the respective link below:

  1. Semesters abroad (3 - 5 months)
  2. Theses abroad (1 - 6 months)
  3. Internships abroad (6 weeks - 6 months)

Please note, that not all scholarship lines described on the DAAD homepage are offered at ALU in 2018. Excursions and group tours cannot be funded and language and specialized courses are no longer supported at ALU, either.
If you are looking for financial support for lecture tours, congress participations or the like, please contact DAAD, directly.

 

Amount of financial support

The type and amount of financial support depends on the length of the stay and the destination:

  • Up to 10 weeks (9 weeks and 6 days): travel-cost allowance
  • 10 weeks or longer: travel-cost allowance and monthly scholarship rate

. Please note, that currently you can only find the list for 2017 here, as the new one for 2018 has not been published yet. The new list for 2018 can be found here, as soon as it is available and might include slightly different amounts.

 

Application regulations – How can I apply?

In accordance with the terms of the DAAD, the application regulations are determined by the universities and may be different at other universities. Depending on the duration of stay and the program line, there are different modalities.

First of all, please make sure to meet the application requirements (see 1. Target group) and that your project abroad is suitable (see 2. Program lines). In addition, please read all information provided on this homepage (see General Information), especially the FAQs. In case of doubts or questions, please do not hesitate to come to our office hours during the lecture period or contact us per email promos@uni-freiburg.de!
