Incoming Students from Freiburg’s Partner Universities

 

Come study in Freiburg, the sunniest city in Germany!

Students of all of the University of Freiburg’s partner universities - the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Universität Basel, Université de Haute-Alsace, Université de Strasbourg - are eligible to complete a Eucor mobility program in Freiburg. In the following, we provide you with a road map offering a detailed overview of the organization of your Eucor Student Mobility:

What courses are offered?

Eucor students may enroll in almost all courses offered at the University of Freiburg. Please take note of any special prerequisites defined by the departments.

When does the semester begin in Freiburg?

  • The winter semester begins in mid-October and ends in early to mid-February.
  • The summer semester begins in mid-April and ends in mid- to late July.

What do I need to do before, during, and after the semester?

Before the beginning of the semester

  • Select a course at the University of Freiburg!
  • Contact the degree program coordinator at your department at your home university to discuss your planned Eucor Student Mobility, particularly regarding the recognition of coursework.
  • Clarify your enrollment in the course with the lecturer at the University of Freiburg. You might also need to arrange a special agreement on the recognition of your coursework with the teacher.
  • Fill out the Eucor Testat (only item 1 of the form)! You can download the Eucor attestation in German or French.
  • Register as a Eucor student for a semester at the Student Service Center:

  • Registration documents
    • Application for registration
    • A passport photo
    • Certificate of matriculation from the Eucor university where you are currently matriculated
    • If you wish to purchase a reduced-price Semester Ticket in Freiburg: proof that you have paid the solidarity contribution of €22 (see below).

  • After registering, you will receive
    • written confirmation of registration and payment by mail..
    • the University of Freiburg Unicard, which gives you access to cafeterias, the University Library, lockers, etc., by mail.
    • your access authorization for the online services offered by IT Services by email.
      Only after changing your original password in myAccount will you have access to all online services offered by IT Services and to the campus management system HISinOne, which you can use to sign up for courses and examinations and to take part in the course registration procedure of the Center for Key Qualifications (ZfS).

  • Solidarity contribution
    Payment of the solidarity contribution entitles you to purchase the Semester Ticket for students at a price of 94 euros per semester. You may purchase your Semester Ticket at the following places: (It is not possible to purchase the Semester Ticket online):
    • at Deutsche Bahn (DB) ticket machines and ticket counters
    • at the “VAG-pluspunkt” (customer service center of Freiburger Verkehrs AG, Salzstraße 3, near Bertoldsbrunnen)
    • at “VAG in der Radstation” (customer service center of Freiburger Verkehrs AG, Wentzingerstraße 15, next to the main train station)
    • at the SBG-Kunden-Center at the central bus station (ZOB) next to the Freiburg main train station

      Go to the Registration Office or to International Admissions and Services (IAS).
    • Cash

During the semester

Enjoy your Eucor semester!

After the end of the semester

  • Complete the Testat (items 2 to 4 on the form) and settle the transfer of your ECTS credits and any reimbursement of travel costs at your home university
  • Did you enjoy your Eucor Student Mobility in Freiburg? Would you like to extend it to more than one semester?
    Register for the next semester at the Student Service Center:
    The registration period for the winter semester runs from 1 June to 15 August.
    The registration period for the summer semester runs from 15 January to 15 February.

  • For questions involving courses (contents, prerequisites, personal work, etc.), please contact the degree program coordinator at your faculty and possibly also the examination office of the university where you are currently matriculated, as well as the lecturer of the course at the University of Freiburg.
  • For questions on registration and matriculation, please contact the Registration Office (alphabetical by last name) if you have German citizenship or International Admissions and Services (alphabetical by last name) if you do not have German citizenship.
