APIS Language courses

As part of the Additional Program for International Students (APIS), we offer free language courses in German, English and French.

The German intensive course during the semester break (4. - 13. October) is fully booked.

How do I register for the language courses?

Registration:

Places are allocated by lottery.

Registration in HISinOne from 13.09.2023 10:00 AM until 14.09.2023 12:00 PM.

  1. Do the self assessment (placement test, see below) to find out what your course level is (target level).
  2. Follow the registration link and register in HISinOne.
  3. Make sure to indicate the COURSE NUMBER (not the course title) given in the tables below. If the course number is missing, your registration will be dismissed.
  4. Important: if you participated in a semester long APIS language course in the summer semester 2023, please send your certificate to apis@zv.uni-freiburg.de.

Important to know:

  • The APIS language courses are free of charge.
  • You can register for a maximum of 1 language course per semester (either for a semester-long course or for an intensive course).

  • Registration for the free semester-long language courses is only possible via the link that will be provided here.

  • Registration via the website of the Language Teaching Institute (SLI) is possible, but subject to a fee. If you have already registered via the SLI, a subsequent refund of the fee is not possible.

  • Only complete registrations can be accepted.

  • We will forward the course confirmation to the SLI. The SLI will send you a booking confirmation with all necessary information: name of coures, course dates, and rooms or online access data.

Eligibility:

  • We will check if you are eligible to participate in our courses.
  • All international non-EU students who are not participating in one of the following exchange programs are eligible to participate in the free APIS language courses: Erasmus, EUCOR, Global Exchange, IES, AYF Academic Year and who do not have a German or European university entrance qualification.

Conditions and cancellation:

  • After the confirmation your registration is binding.
  • A rebooking of the language courses is no longer possible!
  • You can register for a maximum of 1 language course.
  • By registering, you agree to attend regularly and meet the course-specific performance requirements.
  • Please be fair: If you are unable to attend the course, please inform us immediately in writing at apis@zv.uni-freiburg.de so that we can move other students up on the waiting list.
  • A prerequisite for your continued participation in the free APIS program in the following semester is that you obtain a certificate of attendance in this course.

Waiting list:

  • If the APIS courses are fully booked, we will gladly put you on a waiting list.

German courses (during the semester)

The language courses are planned as in-person events, unless otherwise indicated. If it is not possible to conduct the language courses in person, all language courses will be conducted online.

Intensive German Courses (during the semester break - winter semester 23/24)

  • Students from the waiting list (who did not get a place in the semester courses in the winter semester 23/24) are prioritised in the registration for the intensive courses and will be informed by e-mail on how to register. If there are any seats left, students in their first semester (winter semester 23/24) will be informed by e-mail
  • Course period: 03 to 12 April 2024, daily from 09:00 to 12:30
